Pass Your Theory Test Before Your Practical Test
At Sitra Driving School in Nottingham, we understand that taking your driving test can feel a bit stressful. Our goal is to help you feel fully prepared, confident, and ready for success on test day.
The UK practical driving test is the final step towards getting your full driving licence. It is designed to make sure you can drive safely and independently on real roads.
What Happens in the Driving Test?
The driving test is carried out by a DVSA examiner and usually lasts around 40 minutes.
During the test, you will be assessed on your ability to drive safely in different road and traffic conditions, including:
- Urban roads and roundabouts
- Dual carriageways
- Residential areas
- Various traffic situations in Nottingham
Eyesight Check
At the start of the test, you will be asked to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres.
If you cannot do this correctly, your test will be stopped immediately, so it is important to make sure your eyesight meets the legal requirement.
Show Me, Tell Me Questions
You will also be asked ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ questions about basic vehicle safety.
For example, you may be asked to show how to:
- Demist the windscreen
- Check tyre pressure
- Use headlights or indicators
General Driving Ability
The examiner will assess how safely and confidently you drive in real traffic conditions. This includes:
- Correct use of mirrors and signals
- Safe positioning on the road
- Judging speed and distance correctly
- Following road signs and markings
Independent Driving
For part of the test, you will be asked to drive independently for around 20 minutes.
You may be asked to follow:
- Road signs
- A sat nav
This section is not about perfection — it is about showing that you can make safe decisions on your own.
Parking Manoeuvres
During the test, you will be asked to complete one of the following manoeuvres:
- Parallel parking
- Bay parking (forward or reverse)
- Pull up on the right side of the road and reverse
You may also be asked to perform an emergency stop.
