Theory Test Information
At Sitra Driving School in Nottingham, we want to help you feel confident and fully prepared before taking your driving theory test. Most learners feel a bit nervous at first, but with the right practice and guidance, it becomes much easier than expected.
The theory test consists of two parts: multiple-choice questions and hazard perception. You must pass both parts to pass the test.
Multiple Choice Questions
The multiple-choice section lasts 57 minutes and includes 50 questions based on the Highway Code.
Before the test starts, you will be given practice questions and full instructions so you understand how everything works.
To pass this section, you must score at least 43 out of 50.
Some questions include short video clips showing real driving situations such as:
- Driving through busy town centres
- Driving on country or rural roads in the UK
The videos are silent, and you can watch them as many times as you like during the test.
During this section, you can flag questions, go back to review answers, and change them at any time. You can also finish early if you complete all questions before time runs out.
Hazard Perception Test
After a short break of up to 3 minutes, you will move on to the hazard perception test.
This section includes 14 video clips based on real UK road conditions. Each clip shows everyday driving situations where you need to spot developing hazards.
Hazards may include situations such as:
- A pedestrian stepping onto the road
- A car pulling out from a junction
- Sudden changes in traffic conditions
You can score up to 5 points per hazard. The earlier you spot the hazard developing, the higher your score.
You only get one chance per clip, so it’s important to stay focused. Don’t worry — incorrect clicks won’t lose marks, but clicking randomly or repeatedly will score zero for that clip.
